Child Trauma Research Program

Clinical Research - Training - Community Service

The Child Trauma Research Program is nationally recognized for its leadership in developing effective, family-centered interventions for children aged birth through five who experience traumatic events such as:

  • violence in the home
  • death of a loved one
  • life-threatening accidents, illnesses, or disasters.

Our team of multi-cultural, multi-lingual staff is dedicated to helping young children and families who experience traumatic events. We develop and evaluate effective treatment models, provide training across settings and disciplines, and offer direct service to children and their families.

We're happy to announce that the Child Trauma Training Institute, a collaboration between the Child Trauma Research Program and Jewish Family and Children Services of the Bay Area, will begin its third training year on September 1, 2010. This year will represent an expansion in our training model. The first year will focus on principles of infant mental health, integrating principles of trauma, development, and intervention; the second year will focus specifically on child-parent psychotherapy.

The Launch Phase of the Child-Parent Psychotherapy Learning Collaborative sponsored by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) has begun. Fourteen teams comprised of clinicians, supervisors, and senior leaders from 10 states will participate in this learning collaborative, which will include a train-the-trainer track with 9 participants. We're excited about the great demand for child-parent psychotherapy training and for this opportunity to develop a cadre of new trainers to help meet the demand.

Child-parent psychotherapy goes international! Haruv Institute in Jerusalem is sponsoring an initial year-long training in child-parent psychotherapy for Israeli clinicians serving traumatized young children and their families. Twenty clinicians are taking part in the first cohort; we expect to train a second cohort in 2011-2012.
